Economists are warning that Eastern Europe faces tough times ahead in terms of rising long-term unemployment. Although the economy is picking up in general, there is still a high level of unemployment with some 40% of people without jobs having been in that situation for over a year.
Experts are suggesting that the problems are caused by a skills imbalance among the people of the region, which lacks professionals, technicians, managers and sales staff but has a glut of unneeded skilled labour, such as machine operators and craftsmen.
